Margate Old Town is steeped in history. Dating back to the time it was a sleepy little fishing hamlet to the halcyon days of the Dreamland era, there have been an amazing array of events that have shaped the Old Town.
Within the few cobbled streets of Margate Old Town there lies artists' studios and galleries as well as specialist shops and restaurants to delight and entice you.
The Old Town has developed into the creative quarter, offering visitors a distinct experience alongside the Turner Contemporary gallery that opened on the 16th April 2011. Visitors can obtain a copy of the creative Margate map from the Visitor Information Centre in Droit House adjacent to the Turner Contemporary.
The Margate Local History website has great images of old Margate maps dating back centuries that can be zoomed into and is well worth a look.
